The Green Bay Packers will be getting starting quarterback Jordan Love back for their critical NFC North matchup with the Minnesota Vikings. After suffering an MCL injury toward the end of Week 1, Love has missed the past two games.
NFL insider Tom Pelissero reported the news on social media.
He has been practicing each day, albeit in a limited capacity, but he will make his return just in time for this contest. Love had been trending to return all week and there was an expectation that he would see the field on Saturday.
When Love originally suffered his MCL injury, there was some thought that his season could be in jeopardy. But tests showed the best possible outcome for the Packers and he has been working his way back ever since.
There was some thought that he could have returned last week but the team opted to allow him to rest a little more. He is the franchise quarterback for Green Bay so the team approached his injury with a good amount of caution.
Green Bay had been using backup quarterback Malik Willis in the place of Love and he performed even better than many people would have thought. Through two games, Willis threw for 324 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions.
The former third-round draft pick also has rushed for 114 yards and one score, showing off his dual-threat abilities that made him an intriguing selection. The former Liberty product led the Packers to two wins, helping them to keep their season afloat early on.
Love now gets his chance to help the Packers take down a division rival. The Vikings have looked very much like the best team in football, especially after they blew out the Houston Texans last week.
Before Love suffered his injury in Week 1, he threw for 250 yards with two touchdowns and one interception against the Philadelphia Eagles. He has emerged as one of the better young quarterbacks in the entire NFL and was rewarded with a massive contract extension over the offseason.
Green Bay sits with a record of 2-1 on the season and will look to push themselves forward in the NFC North. Getting a win over a division rival this early in the year could change the trajectory of their entire season.
