Law enforcement officers shot an armed suspect on Friday night in Aurora after pursuing them from Plano, according to the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

Illinois State Police is currently investigating the use of force in this incident, a department spokesperson said Saturday.

Multiple agencies were involved in the pursuit of the suspect, police said. Deputies from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for assistance from the Plano Police Department at just before 6:45 p.m. after a report of shots fired in the 3800 block of Pratt Street in Plano.

After the responding law enforcement found a car that they believed to be associated with the gunfire, they began to pursue the suspect, with the chase ending in a confrontation near Route 34 and Eola Road in Aurora. There, the suspect engaged officers in gunfire and was shot, according to Illinois State Police.

The wounded suspect was transported to a local hospital, where they were pronounced dead, police said.

By 10:30 p.m. Friday, Kendall County Sheriff’s Office had contacted Illinois State Police to request an investigation of the officer-involved shooting, which police say is “still in its infancy.”

No law enforcement officers were injured, police said.
