Federal agents on Friday served a subpoena and seized the phones of Mayor Eric Adams’ chief adviser, according to her attorney.
Agents went to the Brooklyn home of Ingrid-Lewis Martin. A longtime political consigliere whose friendship with the mayor goes back over four decades, Lewis-Martin is one of Adams’ closest advisers at City Hall.
Her attorney Arthur Aidala said she was served a federal subpoena from the U.S. Attorney’s office of the Southern District of New York. He said investigators from the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office took her phones.
The reason for the search is unclear, although there are at least four separate investigations into Adams and members of his inner circle. Adams appeared in court Friday after being charged this week with bribery and fraud.
Ingrid-Martin had recently gotten back from a vacation in Japan. She was expected to return to City Hall on Friday.
Lewis-Martin and the mayor’s office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
