The Aurora Police Department has identified the last three suspects in a viral video of six armed men barging into an apartment unit at a local complex.
Security camera footage from Aug. 18 recorded the group knocking on doors at an apartment building near 12th Avenue and Dallas Street before Oswaldo Jose Dabion Araujo, 25, was fatally shot that night in the 1200 block of Dallas Street.
While the Wednesday announcement didn’t name the three suspects or their charges, police are writing two arrest warrants for submission to the Arapahoe District Court. Investigators continue to look into the third suspect, with the goal of potentially filing an arrest warrant later, the news release reports.
“Although the investigation is ongoing, we want to share what we can with the community to ensure the steady release of factual information as part of our dedication to transparency, public safety and, most importantly, community service,” said Aurora Police Chief Todd Chamberlain in a statement.
Last week, his department identified three men in the video: Naudi Lopez-Fernandez, Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco and Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta.
Lopez-Fernandez, 21, is already in police custody, while arrest warrants for first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm have been issued for Zambrano-Pacheco, 25, and Serpa-Acosta, 20, according to the news release.
Chamberlain did not link the suspects to gang activity, including the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, during his Friday news conference.
Aurora police refer to the active investigation as Operation Safe Haven. They encourage anyone with information to reach out to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867, with the option for anonymity and the possibility of a reward up to $2,000.
