A shootout near a popular hot dog stand left one man dead and another critically wounded Tuesday night in the University Village neighborhood.

Around 10:30 p.m., occupants of a red car and dark-colored SUV were outside Jim’s Originals, 1250 S. Union Ave., when they left their vehicles and began shooting at each other in the street, Chicago police said.

A man was shot in the face and he was taken to Stroger Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A 19-year-old man shot in the face was dropped off at Rush Hospital, but he was transferred to Stroger in critical condition, officials said.

No one was in custody in the attack and Area Three detectives are investigating.
