NJ Transit app, online ticketing down during Tuesday morning rush

US

NJ Transit customers found the service’s mobile app and online ticketing system had gone down during Tuesday morning’s commute.

Users who tried to use the app received errors such as “data load failed” and “server connection timeout.”

Around 8 a.m., every bus and train line on NJ Transit’s website showed “alert” status, even if most didn’t have specific alert information. Minutes earlier, most or all lines were indicated to be on time.

A spokesperson for NJ Transit confirmed around 8 a.m. that the agency was aware of the issues and was working on them, but didn’t provide an estimated time for restored service. The spokesperson said NJ Transit was working to resolve the issues as quickly as possible.

NJ Transit riders experienced a hellish summer, full of delays and cancelled service, because of ongoing infrastructure issues. NJ Transit and Amtrak — which owns the rails NJ Transit uses north of Trenton — have traded blame for the problems, but both agencies say they’re working together on stepped-up inspections and coordination.
