Deputies perform high-risk PIT maneuver on Southern California freeway

A man believed to have stolen a van is in custody after deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department performed a successful PIT-manuever on the suspect Monday evening.

The suspect, who was reportedly making a “shooting motion” during the chase and dropped off a passenger before continuing on, was leading authorities in pursuit out of the Commerce area and into East Los Angeles.

As the suspect was in eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway, authorities performed a PIT-maneuver, but the suspect was able to keep going. A short time later, deputies deployed another PIT, causing the driver to spin out and come to a stop.

The man was quickly surrounded by deputies with guns drawn and surrendered.
