When Jayson Tatum returned to the Auerbach Center earlier this week, he had some new ink to show off.

The Celtics star recently got a new tattoo of himself holding the Larry O’Brien Trophy while wearing Boston’s championship hat, placing the ink on his back. The tattoo seemed to be based on an image of Tatum during the Celtics’ locker room celebration when they won the NBA title in June.

Of course, winning at title was a special moment for Tatum as he’s spoken glowingly about the accomplishment throughout the summer.

“This is going to be a night that I will remember for the rest of my life,” Tatum told reporters after the Celtics’ NBA Finals win over the Mavericks. “From the game, the celebration, these moments. You know, over the last couple years, we had some tough losses at home in the playoffs. We’ve lost the NBA championship at home in front of our fans. We had a chance to beat Miami in Game 6 a few years ago and lost that one.

“So to have a big win, the biggest win that you could have in front of your home crowd, I felt like that was really important to go out there and do everything in my power to make sure we won this game tonight.”

The title kickstarted a summer that’s been full of accomplishments for Tatum. He helped the United States men’s basketball team win the gold medal at the Summer Olympics. He was announced as one of the cover athletes for the popular video game “NBA 2K25.” He also signed a five-year, $315 million extension with the Celtics, which was the largest contract in NBA history.

But Tatum’s championship tattoo isn’t the only ink he’s received this summer, either. He unveiled a tattoo of himself holding the Kobe Bryant Trophy from when he won the 2023 All-Star Game MVP in August. Tatum scored an All-Star Game record 55 points in that game.

Tatum notably has several other tattoos, with many on his back. He has a few tattoos that pay homage to his childhood and where he grew up in St. Louis. He has tattoos of his childhood home, the street sign of where the house was located (Archer Ave.), and a young boy with a ball standing in front of a basketball hoop.

Additionally, Tatum has a large tattoo that reads “God’s Will” across his back with the term “Proverbs 3:5-6” under it. There’s also a silhouette of his signature shoe at the bottom of his back next to a tattoo of his personal logo.

Tatum has a few more tattoos on his legs. He got a collage tattoo paying homage to one of his favorite movie, “Life,” and his favorite movie characters in 2023. He also has a tattoo of an image of him with his mother when he was a kid.

As you can likely tell, Tatum is a fan of getting tattoos.

“I love tattoos,” Tatum told 98.5 The Sports Hub in 2023. “I use tattoos as a way to express myself. I have a lot of tattoos.”

With the ink of Tatum’s latest tattoo now dry, he’s now back to work. The Celtics shared images of him working out at the Auerbach Center this week, playing alongside Derrick White during a session.

Tatum and White weren’t the only notable Celtics players spotted working out at the Auerbach Center in recent days. Jaylen Brown practiced with several of the Celtics’ younger players.

More of the Celtics’ top players are expected to join them in the coming days. Kristaps Porzingis shared on Instagram that he wrapped up his final day in Latvia on Friday, with his next stop being in Boston.

The Celtics’ media day to open the 2024-25 season is a week from Friday, with training camp starting right after that.
