Thursday forecast: Warm and sunny again, but cooldown, rain chances on the horizon

US

The pattern of warm and sunny late-summer conditions continues in Chicagoland on Thursday, with inland highs approaching 90.

But a cooldown and several chances for much-needed rain are on the horizon as fall officially begins this weekend.

First, Thursday will see abundant sunshine again, though an afternoon lake breeze will keep high temps in the lower 80s along the lake. Early-morning temps ranged in the 50s and 60s, with the highest readings in the upper 60s near the lake.

The chance for some very welcome showers and storms moves in overnight, but it’s just a slight chance.

Friday and Saturday look to continue the warm and sunny pattern, with highs in the mid-80s, but cooler lakeside again.

Then the change comes, with temps dropping into the mid-70s on Sunday for first day of fall, along with a significant chance for rain.

Forecast

TODAY: Mostly sunny, cooler lakeside, winds SSW at 0-5 mph. High: 88/82.

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy, early AM rain/storm chance, winds SE at 5-10 mph. Low: 68.

TOMORROW: Mostly cloudy, 30% rain/storm chance, cooler lakeside, decreasing clouds, winds W at 5-10 mph. High: 84/79.
