The threats, while separate, were both made by students, police say. Local authorities deemed both threats not credible.

Two separate bomb threats targeted a Boylston school and a police building in Billerica this week, authorities said.

Boylston school administrators alerted the town’s police department to an alleged bomb threat made against Tahanto Regional Middle/High School around 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Boylston police said in a statement. Boylston police, along with the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad, evacuated the school as part of “established crisis protocols,” the statement said.

An investigation found the threat to be not credible, after which students and faculty returned to school, the statement said.

Boylston police said they identified and questioned one suspect, a student at Tahanto. Due to the students’ age, police said, they will not release any information about the suspect’s identity.

Tahanto Regional Middle/High School did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

A threat on Monday night targeted the Billerica Police Department, Chief Roy Frost said in a statement. Billerica Public Schools notified police about the alleged threat around 9 p.m., the statement said. The statement said the suspect posted the threat on social media.

Billerica police said they identified one suspect, a student at Billerica Memorial High School. An investigation deemed the threat not credible, the statement said.

While the threat did not target Billerica Public Schools, law enforcement said there will be an “increased police presence” out of an abundance of caution at Billerica schools.

No charges have been filed and an investigation into the threat is still underway, Billerica police said. Frost said the department will work with the school district to address the suspect’s behavior.

“I would like to acknowledge the school district and school community for alerting us to this online threat,” Frost said. “The safety of our community and of our department members is our top priority and we take threats such as these extremely seriously.”

Recent threats made to Massachusetts schools

The threats in Boylston and Billerica join a growing list of recent bomb threats and shooting threats targeting schools in Massachusetts, most of them allegedly made by students. Last week, two students in Methuen allegedly made separate threats to different schools. One threat targeted Donald P. Timony Grammar School, while the other targeted Methuen High School. Authorities said both threats were not credible.

A shooting threat targeted a school in Waltham earlier this week, prompting the school to temporarily ban backpacks from their campus. Earlier this month, a high school football game in Dedham was canceled after a shooting threat.

The threats follow a recent school shooting in Georgia that killed four people, including two 14-year-old students.
