A Massachusetts landlord was arrested after allegedly driving a bulldozer into a cabin while the tenants were inside, all because of a housing dispute.
Jon Sanborn, 77, was arrested Saturday following the incident, the Salisbury Police Department said. He told detectives he was upset by the amount of drugs at the property, according to the police report obtained by NBC Boston.
The renter, who was not publicly identified, said Sanborn became angry after seeing her boyfriend at the cabin Saturday evening. About 15 minutes later, the bulldozer rammed into the structure, knocking it several feet off its foundation.
Due to the extensive damage, a building inspector deemed the cabin unsafe for anyone to go back inside.
“We’re lucky she was, overall, safe and uninjured,” a police spokesperson told NBC Boston.
A loaded handgun and several rifles were seized at Sanborn’s other property nearby. He has been ordered to have no contact with the tenant, who had been renting the cabin for 18 months.
Sanborn did not address the allegations when NBC Boston tracked him down on Wednesday.
“You ain’t going to get a story,” he told the station.
Sanborn was released after he was arraigned earlier this week. He was charged with two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, disorderly conduct and improper storage of a firearm, according to the The Daily News of Newburyport.
He was released on personal recognizance. He’s due back in court for a pre-trial hearing on Oct. 16.
