Sherri Shepherd Stuns Rachel Maddow On ‘WWHL’: “You’d Be My Lesbian Hall Pass”

US

Sherri Shepherd‘s unfiltered humor was on full display from the moment she sat down in the Bravo Clubhouse for Tuesday night’s (Sept. 17) episode of Watch What Happens Live.

Host Andy Cohen kicked off the show by introducing Shepherd and Rachel Maddow to the audience, before asking if they had ever met.

“We met when I co-hosted The View and you came on,” Shepherd said. “If I was to go for a woman, you’d be my lesbian hall pass. Most definitely.”

A flustered Maddow appeared shocked and flattered as she replied, “I have to go now,” to which Shepherd quipped, “That belt buckle took me everywhere.”

Cohen then poked fun at their extremely different fashion tastes, with Maddow wearing a black pantsuit and Shepherd donning a sparkly purple gown.

“You know what’s funny? When I walked into Rachel’s dressing room today, she was wearing that dress,” Cohen said. “And I said, ‘Sherri’s wearing that.’ And she said, ‘Oh, I think I’ll wear the black blazer instead.’”

In a different part of the episode, Shepherd revealed that she’s still “haunted” by once saying she didn’t know if the Earth was round or flat on national television.

“That’s all I can think about,” she admitted, referring to the awkward moment that came during her first week as a co-host on The View in 2007.

Maddow then asked, “Were you a little high?” to which Shepherd joked, “I was a little high.”

Shepherd, for her part, previously looked back on her infamous flub in a 2009 interview with Time.

“I was really nervous,” she said at the time. “I was totally outside of my comfort zone, and I made a comment that I didn’t mean to make. It was a brain fart.”

While Shepherd was torn to shreds online for the remark, her co-hosts stuck by her side.

“The women of The View came together and said, ‘If we didn’t think you could be here, you wouldn’t be at this table. We love you. We support you. Don’t even worry about it,’” she said. “I got a ton of e-mails from women saying, ‘I don’t care if the earth is round or flat either, Sherri. I’m just trying to pay my bills.’”

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
