Unlicensed acupuncturist in Needham accused of assault

A 56-year-old Neeham man who was practicing acupuncture without a license is facing charges of indecent assault and battery.

Qunhao Zhang was arrested Friday evening at his home and charged with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person 14 or over, Needham police said in a statement.

The department said it received the report of the alleged incident at Boston Acupuncture Center (Chinese) and Herbal Medicine at 1410 Highland Ave. in Needham around 12:25 p.m. on Friday. As a result of the investigation, a warrant was issued for Zhang’s arrest.

Needham police said investigators determined that Zhang had his acupuncture license revoked by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine in the fall of 2022.

According to WCVB, Zhang was charged in Boston with two counts of indecent assault and battery in November 2018. In addition, the station found in 2019 that two complaints had been filed against Zhang with the Board of Medicine since he became a licensed acupuncturist in the state in 2000.

Attorney information for Zhang was not immediately available. According to court records, Zhang failed to appear for his arraignment on Monday.
