LIVE Instant Analysis: Manning dazzles filling in for Ewers in big win over UTSA

US

AUSTIN (KXAN) — There’s a reason the crowd at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium goes bonkers when No. 16 trots onto the field to lead the offense.

Arch Manning threw a 19-yard touchdown on his first pass of the game coming off the bench for an injured Quinn Ewers, and then brought Longhorn Nation to full throat with a 67-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Texas pummeled UTSA 56-7 and Manning accounted for five touchdowns, four passing and one rushing, after Ewers suffered an abdominal strain.

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said the severity of Ewers’ injury “remains to be seen” but nothing is broken, so he doesn’t anticipate Ewers being out for long.

“We’re going to do everything on our part to get him as healthy as possible as quickly as we can,” he said.

Manning finished 9 of 12 passing for 223 yards while Ewers was 14 of 16 for 185 yards with two scores before he left the game.

The Texas offense racked up 614 yards of offense and the defense made 12 tackles for loss.
