Motorcyclist killed in Mount Prospect crash

MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. – A man was killed in a motorcycle crash Thursday night in Mount Prospect.

Mount Prospect police said the crash happened at around 9:40 p.m. in the 900 block of South Elmhurst Road.

When officers arrived, they found a motorcycle in the front yard and a motorcyclist with serious injuries lying in the nearby driveway. The motorcyclists, identified as 22-year-old Alexis Martinez, was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights where he died, according to investigators.

Police said the preliminary investigation revealed Martinez was traveling southbound on South Elmhurst Road from Sunset Road when he lost control of the motorcycle. Martinez, who was not wearing a helmet, was then thrown from the motorcycle as it left the roadway.

After speaking with witnesses and collection evidence from the crash site, investigators are looking into whether speed and/or mechanical issues played a role in the crash.
