White Sox breaking MLB loss record: At this point, are you for it or against it?

US

The White Sox went into the weekend with 114 losses and 15 games to go. We know, you know and even your dimwitted Cousin Earl knows the team breaking the major league record of 120 losses is going to happen.

In this week’s “Polling Place,” your home for Sun-Times sports polls on the social platform X, we asked if you’re rooting for it.

“Current pain is temporary,” @BobSanks commented. “Accomplishment is forever!”

“They deserve the embarrassment,” @mike_lox wrote, “and maybe it’ll force some change.”

And @theologyguy: “You hate to see your team lose that much, but maybe owning a new record for losses will get Jerry Reinsdorf’s attention.”

Also, we asked about the Cubs’ pretty good second half. Are you enjoying it, knowing they’re unlikely to make the playoffs?

“It actually annoys me,” @FritzVonErich2 weighed in. “Another wasted season.”

Last, we asked for your Bears-Texans pick. Who wins Sunday’s game in Houston? And who covers the spread? The Texans are favored by 6½ points.

On to the polls:

Poll No. 1: The White Sox are closing in on the major league record for losses (120) in a season. At this point, are you rooting for them to break it?

Upshot: Look, if you’re going to be so catastrophically terrible that you sully the great reputation of an entire city, you might as well be the best at it.

Poll No. 2: How much satisfaction have you taken from the Cubs’ winning second half?

Upshot: The Cubs just won a series at Dodger Stadium, the kind of thing that makes one wonder: Might they be good enough to win playoff games in even the most daunting venues, like, say, Dodger Stadium? Alas, we’ll never find out.

Poll No. 3: The Bears are 6½-point underdogs at the Texans on Sunday. What’s your pick?

Upshot: So you’re saying there’s a chance? Sheesh — tough crowd. Looks like a 1-1 start, then.
