'Large number' of vases stolen from Woodstock cemetery

WOODSTOCK, Ill. — Several vases were stolen from atop headstones earlier this month in Woodstock.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office responded to McHenry County Memorial Park Sept. 3, located in the 11300 block of Route 14, on the report of stolen vases.

The vases, likely made of brass and cooper, are an add-on that the cemetery sells and attach on top of the headstones to hold fake and real flowers.

A “large number” of vases were stolen the previous night from the south end of the memorial park, according to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. They would not provide the exact number stolen, citing the investigation.

WGN News spoke with Michelle Tucsek, who had her parents’ vase stolen. She provided a video showing several vases missing.

Tucsek said she only found out on Facebook and claimed the cemetery said they did not have enough manpower to contact victims on their own.

“I’ll volunteer my time. How are these people supposed to know?,” she said. “Some are out of state.”

She believes they were were stolen for scrap metal.

“This was very upsetting and disgraceful,” Tucsek said.

Anyone with information can contact police at 815-860-5684.

WGN News has reached out to McHenry Memorial Park and have not heard back at this time.
