Crash along Edens Expressway causes significant backups during rush hour

CHICAGO — A crash along the Edens Expressway caused some lane closures and backups during rush hour on Friday afternoon.

According to the WGN Live Traffic Map, the southbound lanes of the I-94, between Old Orchard Road and Dempster Street, have been closed due to the crash.

The crash appeared to have involved at least two vehicles, a silver SUV and a semi-trailer.

WGN SkyCam 9 was over the scene at around 4 p.m. when several emergency vehicles could be spotted on the scene and one of the vehicles involved appeared to be surrounded by some type of liquid.

The WGN Live Traffic Map indicated that the crash also resulted in some type of hazmat spill, but authorities have not confirmed what exactly unfolded.

Significant backups could be spotted in the southbound lanes as drivers negotiated the closures, backups could also be seen from overhead as northbound drivers faced at least one lane closure.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the crash or if anyone was injured.
