Campbell Soup Company announces intent to change name: 'Subtle yet important'

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – An iconic brand best known for making soup has announced plans to change its company name.

During the Campbell Soup Company’s annual investors meeting on Sept. 10, company leaders gathered in New York City to discuss ideas for the future — and a name change from Campbell Soup Company to The Campbell’s Company.

“This subtle yet important change retains the company’s iconic name recognition, reputation and equity built over 155 years while better reflecting the full breadth of the company’s portfolio,” said Mark Clouse, president and CEO of Campbell’s.

Mick Beekhuizen, president of meals and beverages at Campbell’s, claims soup assets are not as large as other items within the company’s “transformed portfolio.”

“We intend to set the standard for performance in the center store through our compelling consumer engagement and exciting flavor forward innovation, with Rao’s strengthening and solidifying our potential and elevating our overall portfolio.”

Some of the companies Campbell’s has previously acquired include Pepperidge Farm, Snyder’s, Prego, Pace, Swanson, V8, Cape Cod and more.

It is expected that Campbell’s will continue to produce soup products, too.

Stakeholders will decide in November on whether to approve or deny the proposed name change.
