CHICAGO — Nine children were transported to the hospital after ingesting over-the-counter medication for heartburn they found on their way to school.
The Chicago Fire Department responded to Richard J. Daley Elementary Academy, in the 5000 block of South Wolcott Avenue, just after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
According to officials, children, between the ages of 8 and 9, discovered a package on the way to school and believed it was candy so they tasted it.
Officials confirmed the package was over-the-counter medication for heartburn.
A few of the children were taken to Comer Children’s Hospital as a precaution and are expected to be OK.
