U.S. men's soccer team names new coach

US

Exactly two months after the U.S. national men’s soccer team fired its head coach, his successor has been announced.

Mauricio Pochettino, 52, is the new coach, the team announced on social media.

The Argentinian Pochettino has previously managed world-renowned clubs like Paris Saint-Germain, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea.

“I am so excited to become the new head coach of the men’s national team. It’s a massive opportunity,” Pochettino said in a video released by the team.

He takes over for Gregg Berhalter, who was fired in July after an embarrassing performance in the Copa America.

Pochettino will be expected to get the squad in a better position to succeed in the 2026 World Cup.
