Man dead after being shot multiple times near Chatham

CHICAGO – A man was killed in a shooting Monday afternoon on the South Side.

The shooting happened at around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of South Lafayette Avenue and 79th Street near the city’s Chatham neighborhood.

Chicago police said the victim, a 30-year-old man, was inside a vehicle traveling westbound on 79th Street when a sedan also traveling westbound approached. That’s when a man from inside the sedan pulled out a gun and shot at the victim.

The victim was hit multiple times in the head and throughout the body, causing his vehicle to crash near the intersection of 79th Street and South Lafayette Avenue, according to investigators.

Police said the victim was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No arrests have been made and Area Two Detectives are investigating.
