1 killed, 1 wounded in Avalon Park shooting

A woman was killed and a man wounded in a shooting Saturday in Avalon Park on the South Side.

The two were in a car about 5:20 p.m. in the 1600 block of East 87th Street when someone approached them and fired shots, Chicago police said.

Both victims suffered gunshot wounds to the head. The woman, whose age was unknown, was pronounced dead at University of Chicago Medical Center, police said.

The man, 21, was listed in critical condition at the same hospital, police said.

No arrests were reported.
