JOLIET — An investigation is underway on Friday night after police say a 2-year-old boy was fatally stabbed by his 6-year-old brother in Joliet.
Joliet police said the investigation began after officers were called to a home in the 2700 block of Fairway Drive just after 5 p.m. following a report that a child had been stabbed.
Authorities arrived on the scene and found a 2-year-old boy who had suffered multiple stab wounds inside the home.
The young boy was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Following a preliminary investigation, authorities determined that the child had allegedly been stabbed with a kitchen knife by his 6-year-old brother.
Currently, it is unclear what led to the incident.
Authorities said detectives are now working with the victim’s family and added that they are cooperating with authorities.
According to police, the Department of Children and Family Services has been notified about the situation and are working with detectives.
