A 2-year-old boy was stabbed to death apparently by his brother Friday inside a home in Joliet.

Officers responded to a reported stabbing about 5 p.m. at a home in the 2700 block of Fairway Drive in the southwest suburb, Joliet police said.

The boy was found with multiple stab wounds and was taken to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates the boy’s 6-year-old brother stabbed him with a kitchen knife, according to police.

Detectives are investigating, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services was notified of the incident.
