KBVO Game of the Week: Bowie visits Vista Ridge

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Coming off opening week victories, the Bowie Bulldogs and Vista Ridge Rangers clash in a Week 2 non-district tilt at 7 p.m., Thursday at John Gupton Stadium, and it’s the KBVO Game of the Week.

The Rangers won on the road over Killeen 31-21 in their season opener behind big nights from running back J.D. Jackson and defensive back Luke Berry. Jackson rushed for 123 yards on 27 carries with a touchdown while Berry had two interceptions, returning one 90 yards for a touchdown.

Vista Ridge trailed 21-0 at halftime and it was Killeen’s first game back in Class 6A after the UIL’s realignment over the summer.

Bowie pummeled Manor 60-34 behind senior quarterback Cruz Tello. He completed 7 of 19 passes for 144 yards, but five completions went for touchdowns. Rowen Wells and Owen Langdon hauled in two scores each while Owen Ball had the other. Rhys Moreno rushed for 89 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown and Julius Silva needed three touches to rack up 48 rushing yards with a score.

Roger Wallace, Keith Moreland and Noah Gross will have all the action on KBVO starting at 7 p.m. On Friday, the KXAN.com live-streamed game features No. 4 Westlake and San Benito from the Rio Grande Valley. The broadcast begins at 6:50 p.m. with the opening kick at 7 p.m. from Chaparral Stadium.
