Inmate bus, car collide in Lake County; 19 hospitalized

Several people were hospitalized after a crash involving a prisoner transport bus Wednesday afternoon in northwest suburban suburban Hainsville.

About 1 p.m., a McHenry County sheriff’s bus transporting 16 inmates collided with a car near Route 120 and Hainsville Road, the Lake County Sheriff’s office said.

The bus was carrying 15 Lake County Jail inmates and one McHenry County Jail inmate, police said.

The inmates, two McHenry County employees and the driver of the car were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

No other information was available.
