Queen guitarist Brian May is recovering from a “minor stroke” that left him unable to use his left arm, but he has no plans to stop playing music.
In a video posted to his website Wednesday, the British rocker said he quickly regained full mobility of his limb after last week’s “health hiccup.”
“The good news is that I can play guitar,” May, 77, said in the video. “It was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago, and what they called it was a minor stroke and all of a sudden, out of the blue, I didn’t have any control over this arm, so it was a little scary.”
“I have to say I had the most fantastic care and attention from Frimley Hospital where I went, blue lights flashing… the lot. Very exciting!,” he said, describing the ambulance ride to his local hospital in Surrey, outside London.
May added that he was “grounded” from flying or driving and told to not do anything to raise his heart rate.
“I really don’t want sympathy,” the “We Will Rock You” writer said. “Please don’t do that because it will clutter up my inbox and I hate that.”
May previously suffered a heart attack in 2020 and opened up about how the “complications” from medication he took after that nearly killed him.
May and drummer Roger Taylor have continued performing and touring as Queen since the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991.
May was knighted by King Charles III in May 2023.
