Lara Trump releases new single, gets internet drubbing

US

Republican National Committee co-chair Lara Trump’s stab at artistic expression fell flat Monday, with online critics roasting her latest song.

Teaming up with singer Madeline Jaymes, Lara Trump released “Hero” as an homage to first responders. Huffington Post noted first responders were among those under seige during the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump.

“Without your bravery, we’re all out of luck,” the evening-gown-clad Lara Trump sings into a microphone on a fire escape. “No, this can’t be denied. You got to be special.”

The song was released last week, but a clip of it went viral on Monday when liberal commentator Ron Filipkowski shared a snippet on X.

To political strategist and Lincoln Project co-founder Rick Wilson, it “sounded like a wild hog and a sack of rusty cans being thrown into an industrial wood chipper.” Other observations ranged from, “Autotune doing a lot of heavy lifting here,” to, “Every note is a violation of the Geneva Convention.”

“I just played Lara Trump’s garbage and both my dogs ran in and begged me to shoot off fireworks instead,” social media commentator Tony Posnanski wrote on X.

“My dogs were rough-housing until I turned up the volume to hear the voice,” wrote another user. “They stopped and howled.” Director, filmmaker and political satirist Jeremy Newberger offered up a faux-fix with yet another animal.

Lara Trump is married to Donald Trump’s son Eric. She was installed in her position at the RNC in March. Her songs have included a rendition of Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” in 2023, and another single released in March, “Anything Is Possible.”
