A bicyclist in Brooklyn died after being struck by a van on Sunday, police said.
The 46-year-old cyclist was traveling north on Union Ave near Lynch St. in Williamsburg around 11:30 a.m. when the van, which was traveling in the same direction, hit him and then crashed into an unoccupied sedan, according to cops.
EMS transported the cyclist to an area hospital where he died, police said. The 40-year-old van driver was also taken to the hospital in stable condition, according to police.

New York City Council member Lincoln Restler, who represents Williamsburg, wrote on X the man’s death might have been preventable.
“We suffered tragic cyclist fatality by Union & Lynch in Williamsburg today,” he wrote. “We’ll keep pushing for safer streets on every block. More cyclists died in NYC last year than 25 yrs. These deaths are preventable w/ network of protected lanes.”
Thirty cyclists were killed in 2023, making it the deadliest year for cyclists since 1999, according to the Department of Transportation. Nearly 400 cyclists were severely injured.
There were no immediate arrests and the investigation is ongoing, police said.
