New York City was the first city in the United States to celebrate Labor Day back in 1882 and we’ve continued to lead the evolution of workers’ rights ever since. Labor Day is a time to honor the historic strides workers have made in promoting rights in our workplaces, from the fight to secure a five-day workweek to the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938, which gave workers nationwide the right to overtime pay and a minimum wage.
