CHICAGO — Crews are preparing to begin repairs on a bridge over the Des Plaines River in Chicago and Schiller Park and it could lead to some disruptions for drivers over the next few months.
Officials from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) said crews will begin repair work on the bridge that carries West Lawrence Avenue over the river starting on Tuesday, Sept. 3.
Because of the construction, the road will be reduced to one lane in both directions.
Officials said the closures are necessary while crews repair the bridge deck and approaches, replace expansion joints and conduct resurfacing.
Because the construction is expected to cause delays, IDOT officials advise drivers to allow extra time for trips through the area.
Drivers are also urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones and stay alert for workers and equipment.
Construction is expected to be completed in late December.
