Shooting in South Side park leaves 1 injured, investigation underway

CHICAGO — Authorities are investigating a shooting at a park on the city’s South Side that left a woman injured on Saturday evening.

According to Chicago police, the shooting unfolded just after 7 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Ellsworth Drive in Washington Park.

Officers said the victim, a 46-year-old woman, was inside Washington (George) Park when a vehicle approached and someone inside pulled out a gun and opened fire.

Officers said the victim was shot in the thigh and was later taken to the hospital in good condition.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and authorities said no arrests have been made.
