A beloved Houston businessman, Jim “Mattress Mack” McIngvale, has said he had been hospitalized due to cognitive issues.
On Saturday night, he posted a video on X, formerly Twitter, that was filmed from his hospital bed that evening.
McIngvale, 73, said he was having “a little trouble with cognitive things,” but reassured his followers that he was going to be all right.
“I’m sure I’ll be all right because they have great doctors at the Texas Medical Center,” he said in the video.
McIngvale is a businessman popular in the Houston community for his acts of generosity. Many wished him a speedy recovery, with several people noting how much he has done to help the people in the city over the years, including opening up his store to shelter people in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey in 2017.

And he took the opportunity to promote a Labor Day sale at his furniture store, Gallery Furniture, saying it was the “best way” for his supporters to make him feel better.
“Biggest sale ever! Labor Day Super Sale and buy that Tempur-Pedic and sleep great tonight,” McIngvale said.
“Hopefully, I’ll get out of here pretty soon cause I gotta go sleep on that Tempur-Pedic. God bless you all. I’m going to be all right and I’m really going to be all right if you all go out and buy some furniture at Gallery Furniture right now.”

Newsweek has contacted McIngvale and Gallery Furniture for comment via social media.
McIngvale’s video amassed thousands of likes and comments on X, Facebook and Instagram as well on Gallery Furniture’s social media accounts.
“Lord, you know the heart of this man,” Patricia De La Cruz wrote on Facebook. “He has done your work Father, opened his store to all of Houston during storms. We ask you to take care of him and give him full recovery.”
Another person wrote: “Mr. Mac you need to rest. You’ve been good to Houston pretty much your entire life. Get some rest. Houston owes you.”
Others praised McIngvale’s work ethic, as well as his generosity.
Another person wrote on Instagram: “Mack is a legendary salesman. In the hospital yet still plugged the business… we love you Mack!”
“No days off. Our king!” another person wrote.
And another wrote: “Your work ethic is admirable, please get well! Sending prayers.”
On Facebook, Tina Saenz wrote: “It’s like full circle, you promote your business, and give back to the community, who in return show their gratefulness by purchasing from you. Sending positive vibes and tons of prayers for a full recovery. Thank you for being you. You are soooo much more appreciated than you can ever imagine.”
