Lake County sheriff’s officials are crediting 911 dispatchers and a pair of police dogs for finding an Ingleside man accused of threatening his roommate with a knife.

Sebastian Homuth, 30, was detained and taken to the county jail. He currently is refusing to go through the booking process, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Saturday.

Homuth will be held in jail until he is booked. He will then appear in court on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, disorderly conduct and resisting an officer, according to the sheriff’s office.

Sheriff’s deputies were called at about 10:15 p.m. Friday to an Ingleside home in the 24800 block of West Crabtree Lane for a report of a man threatening a roommate with a knife. Deputies arrived and spoke to a man who said Homuth became enraged that he was using the microwave.

Homuth retrieved a large kitchen knife and began pointing it at the man, the release said. The person backed away and ran toward his bedroom, but Homuth chased him with the knife in hand, according to the release. The man was able to get into his bedroom, lock the door and call 911, authorities said.

Deputies determined the residence was subdivided into different apartments, so they evacuated the others and tried to communicate with Homuth, who did not respond. Deputies determined there was an additional exit and that Homuth may have fled on foot.

Sheriff’s canine Danno initially tracked Homuth for more than a mile through the Grant Woods Forest Preserve. Homuth called 911 and reported an attack at the opposite end of the forest preserve, the release said.

Sheriff’s dispatch quickly determined the 911 caller was Homuth and kept him on the phone and talking, so they could hone in on the location of the phone. Telecommunicators used the information they obtained, so the perimeter could be tightened around Homuth’s location.

Danno and another sheriff’s dog, Odin, found Homuth, who didn’t initially follow instructions to surrender, the release said.

Telecommunicators encouraged Homuth to surrender, which he did, before one of the dogs was released to apprehend him.
