Former Broncos ILB Jonas Griffith to have ACL surgery

US

Former Broncos linebacker Jonas Griffith announced that he will have his second ACL surgery on the same knee that he injured during training camp of last year.

“As I prepare for my 2nd ACL surgery on the same knee in the last year, part of me questions, “why would this happen to me again?” and the other part of me knows that God wouldn’t give me anything in life that I couldn’t handle,” Griffith said in a lengthy Instagram post.

The Broncos waived Griffith without an injury designation on Tuesday after he had played 22 games since 2021 due to injury. A foot injury limited Griffith to nine games played in 2022. And when he returned to the practice field in 2023, he tore his left ACL in August and was forced to miss the entire season.

Griffith came back this summer with the hope of being a starter alongside Alex Singleton. He appeared in all three preseason games before Denver decided to part ways with the 27-year-old, as Cody Barton ultimately won the job.

“I’m heartbroken, angry and confused especially knowing I didn’t skip any steps during my recovery to get to this point,” he continued. “I also know that my story with football is far from over and I will be a better me because of this challenge. I am healthy(for the most part). I have so much love in my corner and I’m alive! There’s still so much to be thankful for and there are others going through more difficult things! Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers.”
