AUSTIN (KXAN) — Approximately 100 Central Texans learned CPR at an event hosted at Q2 Stadium in Austin Friday.
St. David’s HealthCare held the event, with participants now trained in CPR given complimentary tickets to Saturday’s Austin FC game for their contributions.
Officials said St. David’s HealthCare’s CPR and Stop the Bleed training team will be acknowledged as part of the Saturday match’s halftime, according to a release.
Training teams pointed to the value of bystander CPR, with data from the American Heart Association reporting bystander CPR can double or triple someone’s survival changes, particularly if administered right after a cardiac arrest begins.
Additional data from the AHA’s 2023 Heart Disease and Stroke analyses found only 40.2% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients received bystander CPR.
The American College of Surgeons’ Stop the Bleed program also works to educate people on training related to minimizing severe bleeding. Research from the American College of Surgeons revealed those who are severely bleeding can bleed to death within five minutes if not attended to.
