Several U.S. airlines are hoping to entice travelers to book with them in the coming months, offering restored international service, deep discounts for Labor Day and a new streaming option for sports fans.

United restores LAX-to-Shanghai route
United Airlines is restoring flights from Los Angeles to Shanghai, China, bringing back the transpacific flights for the first time since 2020.
United suspended to LAX-to-Shanghai direct flights in February 2020, not long after the U.S. urged Americans not to travel to China during the early days of the coronavirus pandemic.
Travel between the two countries has been significantly limited since then for several high-profile airlines. Earlier this year, Delta Airlines decided it would discontinue its LAX-to-Shanghai route due to waning demand and severe capacity restrictions.
But on Thursday, a United Airlines flight between the two megacities took off from LAX to much fanfare from airline and airport officials with special gifts for passengers and cultural presentations from Chinese performers.
United Airlines says the flights between Los Angeles and Shanghai will initially operate four times a week but will increase to daily by the end of October.
United, company officials said, is largest carrier serving China from the U.S.

Alaska to stream college football in-flight
Alaska Airlines is getting into the college football spirit this season by offering free streams of select college football games.
Travelers flying Alaska on Saturdays can live-stream the Big Noon Saturday lineup from FOX Sports.
The in-flight streaming service will be available on Saturdays between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pacific Time on mainline aircrafts with satellite Wi-Fi at no additional cost.
The new partnership with FOX Sports gives Alaska its first opportunity to live stream sporting events aboard one of its planes.
“The Big Ten expansion will create an unprecedented amount of sports travel as athletes and fans from Washington, Oregon and California venture east to take on teams from the Midwest to the Atlantic,” an Alaska Airlines spokes person said. “Alaska is up for the task of connecting guests to their games—whether they’re cheering from the stands or an exit row.”
