FOX LAKE, Ill. — A man convicted of killing a 77-year-old male inside his Fox Lake home in December of 2022 will spend decades behind bars.

A Lake County judge on Thursday sentenced Azmi Ibrahim, now 37, to 50 years in prison following the deadly Dec. 12 shooting that claimed the life of Roy Hoffman.

WGN News reported that police responded to Hoffman’s residence in the 0-100 block of Mineola Road on the report of shots fired around 9:35 p.m. Arriving officers located Hoffman’s body. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the 911 caller told dispatchers that a man and woman entered a minivan and fled moments after the gunfire. According to police, Hoffman invited the woman, later identified as then 31-year-old Kathryn Deason, over to his home “to have a romantic relationship in exchange for money.” While she was there, Ibrahim, 37, entered the residence and shot Hoffman.

Ibrahim pleaded guilty in January to first-degree murder.

Authorities charged Deason with obstruction of justice.

Imprisoned since late 2022, Ibrahim received a 627-day credit for time served.
