‘Wordle’ #1,165 Answer, Clues and Hints for Tuesday, August 27 Puzzle

US

If you’re struggling with today’s Wordle puzzle, Newsweek is here to help with clues and hints.

The brainteaser, which was created by software engineer Josh Wardle, has become wildly popular since its release in 2021. The game went from 90 users in November 2021 to more than 300,000 just months later in January 2022.

The New York Times purchased the brain game for a seven-figure price, and it’s now popular with celebrities including Carol Burnett, Allison Janney, Ben Affleck and more.

“Allison and I, we Wordle,” Burnett told Entertainment Tonight in April 2023, noting that they often text each other daily. “We just Wordle back and forth. She’s the first one every morning at my coffee.”

The Palm Royale actress added that Wordle is “fun.”

Wordle players have six chances to guess the daily five-letter word, and feedback is given to help nail it down. A green box indicates that the letter was guessed in the correct place, a yellow box indicates you’ve guessed a letter that’s in the word, though not in the right spot, and a gray box indicates the letter is not in today’s word.

In January 2022, Wardle told Newsweek players get six guesses on purpose.

“There is a reason that every word is five letters long and that you are allowed six attempts to guess it. That might seem arbitrary but, with the prototype version, I tested different word lengths and experimented with the number of tries that players were allowed,” he said.

“Through that process of refinement, I figured out that five letters and six tries was the ideal sweet spot. It’s just limited enough to feel challenging and to make you think, but most of the time people still manage to solve it. So, you feel a real sense of accomplishment.”
