The New York Giants’ latest roster cuts included a former Pro Bowl wide receiver.
On Tuesday, the Giants released wide receiver Allen Robinson II, per multiple reports.

Robinson, 31, has struggled to return to his old form over the last few seasons. Now, he’ll look for yet another new home.

Robinson was initially drafted in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He appeared in 10 games during his rookie season with the Jaguars, before breaking out in year two, catching 80 passes for 1,400 yards and a league-high 14 touchdowns.
Robinson had another dominant season in 2016, reeling in 73 receptions for 883 yards and six touchdowns. Then, a torn ACL ended his 2017 season in Week 1.
Robinson joined the Chicago Bears ahead of the 2018 season, and spent four years there. He had back-to-back dominant seasons in 2019 and 2020, and continued to establish himself as a premier receiver in the league. In 2019, he had 98 catches for 1,147 yards and seven touchdowns. In 2020, he had 102 catches for 1,250 yards and six touchdowns.

Unfortunately, Robinson’s career has taken a downturn since then. In 2021, his final season with the Bears, he had 38 catches for 410 yards and one touchdown. In 2022 with the Los Angeles Rams, Robinson had 33 catches for 339 yards and three touchdowns. Last year with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Robinson had 34 catches for 280 yards and zero touchdowns despite starting all 17 games.
Robinson signed with the Giants in May and hoped to earn a roster spot. However, the Giants elected to cut Robinson in favor of their younger options.
Rookie first-round pick Malik Nabers headlines New York’s wide receiver room. Next to him is Jalin Hyatt, a third-round pick from a year ago, and Wan’Dale Robinson, a second-round pick from 2022.
The Giants are hoping for breakout seasons from all three of those young guys, but still have veterans Darius Slayton and Isaiah Mckenzie, too.
The Giants wide receiver room should be much improved this season, especially if Nabers immediately pans out. Nabers is coming off a junior season at Louisiana State University in which he caught 89 passes for 1,569 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Giants spent the sixth overall pick on him, and will likely feed him the ball in his first season in the NFL.
