Satellite Imagery Shows Construction of Burning Man Festival in Nevada Desert

US

Satellite imagery captured by Maxar shows the start of Burning Man in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert on August 25.

The stills show traffic at the entrance gates, several small planes, and a view of Black Rock City, “a temporary metropolis dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance,” according to organizers.

A person was found unresponsive and died at the event on August 25, according to a press release from Burning Man Project. News reports said the deceased person was female and her death was under investigation pending autopsy.

Ticket sales to the 2024 gathering were said to be down about five percent from last year, when heavy rain left many participants stranded in mud. Credit: Maxar via Storyful
