Former NBA Player Explains Caitlin Clark’s Incredible First Season Using Marvel Analogy

As the WNBA season progresses, there is much speculation surrounding the MVP race. Two players in the running are A’ja Wilson and Caitlin Clark. Former NBA player Rashad McCants made his case for Clark using a superhero analogy on the Gil’s Arena show.

“Caitlin is Jean Gray out there, omega level mutant,” McCants said. “She looks like a completely different player because she did the work during the All-Star break. Caitlin said, ‘I don’t want to do none of that. I’m going to the lab. I need to fix what’s going here.’ And now we see the difference.”

McCants debated with Gilbert Arenas, Josiah Johnson, Lexie Brown, Brandon Jennings on whether Wilson or Clark should be crowned as MVP. The Las Vegas Aces center is the current favorite to win the award.

McCants argued that Wilson is on a super team, which makes her climb to clinching the MVP title easier.

“Being on a good team, the way she [Wilson] is, they won back-to-back championships. Here comes this girl that’s doing something different than what she’s doing. And she [Clark] don’t have none of the pieces that she [Wilson] has. That makes it easier for her [Wilson] to do her job. A’ja can do her job with no pressure. She could have an off night and still win.”

The two-time MVP is averaging 27 points and 12 rebounds each game. Wilson is shooting 52.5% from the field, 40% from three, and 87% from the free throw line.

Despite the impressive slew of numbers, the Las Vegas Aces have had a disappointing season thus far.

Clark is the undisputed favorite to win Rookie of the Year, but she also has a chance to win MVP.

On Saturday night, she became the fastest player in WNBA history to eclipse 500 points and 200 assists. She is the first rookie ever to reach those numbers.

Clark is no stranger to breaking records this season. In July, she became the first rookie ever to record a triple-double.

The No.1 overall pick is averaging 17.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 8.3 assists. Clark will need to improve her numbers if she wants to rout Wilson in the MVP race. McCants believes Clark will do just that.

“I know she’s going to get better [as the season goes on],” McCants said. “She has already broken WNBA records. She has changed the game.”
