What was the soundtrack to this summer’s hottest sludge videos, dance tutorials, and long-winded stories told from the front seat of someone’s car?

Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby,” apparently.

TikTok has recently revealed its top “Songs of the Summer” for 2024, highlighting the songs (and artists) that users most often chose to score their TikTok videos.

At the top of the U.S. list is a remix of singer and rapper Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby,” a song that currently holds the record for the longest-running No. 1 song on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 after having spent 10 weeks at No. 1 between May and July.

Tinashe’s “Nasty,” a 2024 release that asked, “Is somebody going to match my freak?”, and Blood Orange’s “Champagne Coast,” a 2011 song that found new life on TikTok in recent months, came in second and third on TikTok’s U.S. “Songs of the Summer” list.

The complete U.S. Top 10 list, as determined by TikTok, is below:

  1. “Million Dollar Baby” (VHS mix) – Tommy Richman
  2. “Nasty” – Tinashe
  3. “Champagne Coast” – Blood Orange
  4. “Magic Johnson” – Ian
  5. “Birds of a Feather” – Billie Eilish
  6. “Please Please Please” – Sabrina Carpenter
  7. “Tell Ur Girlfriend” – Lay Bankz
  8. “Wanna Be” – GloRilla feat. Megan Thee Stallion
  9. “Not Like Us” – Kendrick Lamar
  10. “Kehlani” – Jordan Adetunji

Globally, the top “Songs of the Summer” look a bit different: “Gata Only,” a song by Chilean artists FloyyMenor and Cris Mj, took the top spot over runners-up Tinashe and Tommy Richman (in that order). Several international artists including Karol G (“Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido”) and Sevdaliza (“Alibi”) also made the global list.

TikTok’s “Songs of the Summer” rankings are based on the number of total “creations” that utilized each song during “Summer 2024,” according to a press release from TikTok.

A representative for the platform could not provide specific data for each song’s usage, but said the data for its rankings was gathered between June and August. (All-time “creation” numbers are available to TikTok users via the app’s “Music Charts” feature.)

The Billboard TikTok Top 50, meanwhile, is based on weekly “creations, video views and user engagement,” Billboard announced upon the chart’s debut in Sept. 2023. A song or artist’s plays on TikTok are not included anywhere else on Billboard’s charts.
