The NYPD recovered his firearm and released a photo of it.

The NYPD’s ShotSpotter gunshot detection system had also been activated in the area, NYPD Housing Chief Martine Materasso told reporters

Cops from the NYPD’s Police Service Area 5, which covers the housing complex, gave “numerous commands verbally to drop the gun” but the gunman didn’t comply and two officers opened fire, striking him, Materasso said.

The officers performed CPR on the man before medics took him to Harlem Hospital but he couldn’t be saved.

The NYPD recovered his firearm and released a photo of it.

Materasso said cops were still investigating whether the gunman fired any shots at police. Cops have not yet released his name.
