Actor Chris Hemsworth surprised a crowd of nearly 70,000 fans at an Ed Sheeran concert in Romania on Saturday night, taking the stage to play drums on the song “Thinking Out Loud.”

The 41-year-old “Thor” star was filmed during the event for the second season of his National Geographic docuseries, “Limitless with Chris Hemsworth,” reported The Hollywood Reporter.

The new season of the show, which focuses on mental wellness and the benefits of learning new skills, is set to premiere in 2025 on Disney+. Hemsworth’s drum performance marked his debut as a percussionist, a skill he developed as part of the docuseries.

In a video shared on Instagram, Sheeran explained how the collaboration came about: “Chris emailed me last December saying he’s doing a documentary on cognitive health and the benefits of learning an instrument,” Sheeran said. “He came to visit me, and he’s learned drums and he’s coming onstage in front of 70,000 [people].”

During the concert, Sheeran introduced him to the audience, saying, “He’s been onstage playing with us the whole time, playing in time. Please make some noise for Chris Hemsworth!”

The crowd erupted in cheers as Hemsworth proceeded to continue on the drums for “Thinking Out Loud.”

The two stars reportedly have a long-standing friendship, and after the performance, Sheeran hugged Hemsworth backstage and presented him with a special trophy shaped like a hand holding drumsticks.

Sheeran’s Mathematics Tour continues this year with upcoming stops in Bulgaria, Cyprus, and Brazil.
