Good morning, Chicago.

We’ve made it. The politicians and delegates are packing up, as are out-of-town protesters, journalists, and TV hosts. Road closures are opening back up and the United Center will soon be back to its regularly scheduled programming. Beyoncé fans hopeful about a surprise performance put their mirrored cowboy hats away.

Talk now turns to how the city performed, and possibly, whether the Democratic National Convention may return.

Here’s what happened on the final night of the DNC, from the Tribune’s A.D. Quig.

Kamala Harris accepts Democratic presidential nomination, urges nation to move forward not back

Vice President Kamala Harris formally accepted the Democratic nomination for president Thursday, pledging her election would present to the nation a “precious, fleeting opportunity to move past the bitterness, cynicism and divisive battles of the past” and create “a chance to chart a new way forward.”

“I promise to be a president for all Americans. You can always trust me to put country above party and self, to hold sacred America’s fundamental principles, from the rule of law to free and fair elections to the peaceful transfer of power,” Harris said.

Optimistic Democrats heavy on the patriotism at Chicago convention

Time and again, cameras at the made-for-TV party panned the crowd wildly waving the placards, as Democrats made a bid to claim the mantles of patriotism and love of personal freedom that have long been Republican turf.
