Jennifer Lopez reveals reason for divorcing Ben Affleck after two years of marriage

She’s keeping it real.

Jennifer Lopez cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for her split from Ben Affleck after two years of marriage.

The “Marry Me” singer, 55, officially filed for divorce from Affleck, 52, on August 20, which just so happened to be the pair’s second anniversary of their Georgia ceremony.

According to Daily Mail, that choice was intentional on the musician’s part.

“Jennifer said she was tired of being humiliated by Ben and she waited until the two-year anniversary because she wanted it to sting,” an insider alleged to the publication.

“But it did not sting him,” the insider claimed. “He’s been done for a long time and deep down she knows this. He let her have this so that she wouldn’t look like the villain.”

Another source alleged to Us Weekly: “The timing of the divorce was a big f—k you to Ben.”

In the court docs, Lopez also listed the date of separation as April 26, 2024 and waived the right to spousal support and asked the judge to deny Affleck support. She requested that Affleck be dropped as her last name, too.

Per TMZ sources, the estranged couple did not have a prenup.

Lopez was in New York the day of the separation, as she was gearing up to co-host the 2024 Met Gala. Split rumors initially took off when she attended the annual fashion event and walked the red carpet solo without the Oscar winner on May 6.

Affleck would later move out of their $60 million marital mansion and into a rental home. The “Argo” actor has since purchased a $20.5 million home and put the property they bought together on the market.

Additionally, Lopez and Affleck did not spend her 55th birthday or second wedding anniversary together in July. She was spotted at his rental home on his 52nd birthday last week, but later danced to Bruno Mars at the musician’s concert without him during the song “Marry Me.”

The pair first got together in 2002, but ended their first engagement in 2004. Two decades later, they rekindled their romance and tied the knot at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas in July 2022. They went on to hold a second, more extravagant wedding at Affleck’s home in Riceboro, Georgia, on Aug. 20, 2022.

“We’re older now, we’re smarter, we have more experience, we’re at different places in our lives, we have kids now, and we have to be very conscious of those things,” Lopez told People about their second shot at love. “It’s a beautiful outcome that this has happened in this way at this time in our lives where we can really appreciate and celebrate each other and respect each other. We always did, but we have even more of an appreciation because we know that life can take you in different directions.”

Per Page Six, Bennifer’s relationship began to crack during their Italy honeymoon.

Affleck shares kids Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, with his first ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, 52, who he split from in 2015 after 10 years of marriage. Lopez, for her part, is mom to 16-year-old twins Emme and Max with ex-husband Marc Anthony.
