Affidavit: Austin Police arrest Uber driver accused of sexual assault

US

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A 38-year-old man was arrested after a victim accused him of sexual assault while he was driving for Uber in May, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

On May 4, around 3 a.m., the victim told the Austin Police Department they fell asleep in the rideshare and woke up to the Uber driver sexually assaulting them, according to the affidavit.

The victim then provided police with the license plate number on the Uber driver’s license plate, court records said.

That information then led police to the driver’s home in north Austin, where he was arrested, according to the affidavit. That man was identified as Victor Manuel Legon-Frias, 38.

KXAN has reached out to Legon-Frias’ attorney. We will update this article if a statement is received.

Uber releases statement

KXAN reached out to Uber on the case, and a spokesperson for the company released this statement below:

This monstrous behavior has no place in our society or on the Uber platform. We treat reports like this with the utmost seriousness, and immediately removed the driver’s access to the platform as soon as we were made aware. We have also been in touch with law enforcement to help support their investigation.

According to Uber, reporting incidents can be done by riders and drivers to Uber’s Safety Incident Reporting Line. The Uber Incident Response Team “is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to respond to incidents globally,” according to Uber.
