A Boston Duck Tours boat rescued an adult and child from the Charles River Monday, according to Cambridge fire officials.

The duck boat pulled two people out of the water near 40 Land Blvd., not far from the Museum of Science, the Cambridge Fire Department wrote on social media shortly after 9:30 a.m. Fire officials did not say how the adult and child ended up in the water, but noted that emergency medical crews were evaluating the pair.

WHDH reported that a father jumped into the river after his toddler fell into the water. Duck boats were practicing safety routines nearby and spotted the pair, who were not participating in a tour at the time, per WHDH.

A Cambridge Police Department spokesperson told Boston.com that officers initially responded to the scene to assist with a report of two people in the water behind the Royal Sonesta hotel, but Massachusetts State Police took point on the incident because it took place in the river.

Boston Duck Tours and State Police did not immediately respond to requests for comment Monday morning.
